ⓘ Anthony Skeffington

Anthony Skeffington was an English-born cleric and judge in Ireland.

He was born in Skeffington, Leicestershire. He was a relative, perhaps the brother of sir William Skeffington, who served as Lord Deputy of Ireland, 1529-32 and 1534-5, and he probably came to Ireland in the retinue Williams. He was appointed master of the rolls in Ireland in 1530 and held this position, which at that time were largely administrative and not Judicial in nature to 1533.

In 1535 he was appointed prebendary of swords in St. Patricks Cathedral, Dublin. His office was suppressed shortly afterwards, during the General abolition of the Roman Catholic benefices at the reformation. The date of his death is not recorded.
