Hayes Barnard is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, known for his role as Chief Revenue Officer at SolarCity and his involvement in developing the residential solar industry. Barnard is currently the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Loanpal which was founded in 2003. Paramount Solar, a subsidiary of his holding company, was acquired by SolarCity in 2013 for 0 million.

In 2014, Barnard founded The GivePower Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit focused on providing clean water and energy systems to communities in need around the world.

                                     

1. Career

Barnard was a sales executive at Oracle before he founded Paramount Equity Mortgage later renamed to Loanpal in September of 2003, a company that specialized in residential home loans. In 2008, he founded and became CEO of Paramount Solar, a subsidiary of Paramount Equity Mortgage.

In 2011, Barnard brought on Guthy-Renker as an investor and business partner to assist with the growth of Paramount Equity Mortgage and Paramount Solar. Guthy-Renker specialized in large-scale direct marketing, known for its work with brands such as Proactiv. Barnard and Guthy-Renker partnered with SolarCity and sold many of their installations to them.

Paramount Solar was acquired by SolarCity in 2013 for $120 million and Barnard was appointed SolarCity’s Chief Revenue Officer. As Chief Revenue Officer, he managed a team of 8.000 and oversaw SolarCitys marketing and sales departments. He was also responsible for the company’s growth and grew megawatts installed 300% from 2013 to 2015.

Barnard left SolarCity in 2016 and took on the role of Founder, Chairman and CEO of Loanpal, the #1 solar lender in the United States. A year after launching, it was financing 21% of all residential solar installs. Loanpal is a financial technology platform that provides financing for clean energy products, by connecting solar installers, homeowners, and banks.

Barnard is also the Founder, Chairman and CEO of The GivePower Foundation, which he founded in 2014 while at SolarCity. The GivePower Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that develops clean water and energy systems in communities across the world. The Foundation’s first project was to provide solar-powered lighting for one school for every one megawatt of solar PV systems SolarCity installed in 2014.

GivePower uses solar energy and storage technologies to deliver essential community services to the developing world, such as providing access to fresh drinking water. GivePower has helped power 17 countries, including communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The organization has installed solar micro grids in over 2.650 locations, including many schools and medical facilities.

In 2018, Barnard’s organization built a solar-powered desalination system in Kiunga, Kenya that produces 19.800 gallons of fresh drinking water a day. In 2020, GivePower will launch additional clean water projects in Haiti’s Isle de la Gonave and in Mombasa, Kenya. His foundation also assisted the Sioux Nation in North Dakota in developing a 300-kilowatt solar farm in North Dakota, the first solar farm in the state.
